About Hoppy Darts

Leaping into vibrant hues

Friendly, helpful keepers focused on captive-bred frogs.

How we got hooked

Our older son and my husband started researching dart frogs, then visited a local reptile & more expo to learn more. Soon after, we set up our first vivarium and brought home Big Spot and Speckles—two juvenile Dendrobates tinctorius Azureus. From there the whole family was hooked.

On our next family trip, we met a breeder, came home with tadpoles and more juveniles, and added three new species. Once we saw how many amazing dart frogs are out there, we began building out several more tanks—and now have them in multiple rooms. Along the way, generous local and far-away breeders helped with information and supplies, and we’re grateful for that community.

Our Mission

Share healthy, captive-bred dart frogs and practical, real-world care—so more families can enjoy them with confidence.

Service Area

Local pickup in Central Ohio and nearby. We also ship within the U.S. when weather and routing allow—safety first.

Our setup & practices

We currently run 13 tanks plus grow-outs, with a couple more on the way. We love designing backgrounds with cork and branches— most builds use silicone, spray foam, and cork backings. Then we layer drainage, ABG mix, plant heavily, and seed with a clean-up crew of isopods and springtails. A generous leaf-litter cap ties it together. We let each tank grow in before introducing frogs.

  • Bioactive first: living substrates, live plants, and microfauna.
  • Dialed-in parameters: stable temps/humidity and regular monitoring.
  • Patience: tanks get time to mature before any new additions.
